Indian scholar praises Taiwan’s healthcare system

Dharamjeet, DJ in short, from India, is currently working as a research scholar at Academia Sinica in Taiwan. DJ, who has been in Taiwan for six years, shared his experience of seeing a doctor in Taiwan by filming a YouTube video, calling Taiwan’s healthcare system “the best in the world”!

In the video, DJ explains that he has had several illnesses during his six years in Taiwan, and that he has seen doctors several times in Taiwan.

He said that he caught a cold and needed to see a doctor. Therefore, he documented how he saw a doctor in Taiwan and shared the differences in the healthcare system between Taiwan and India.

Also, the Indian scholar reminded foreigners in Taiwan of what they need to know before visiting a doctor.

He kindly reminds people to check the clinic hours beforehand if they are going to see a doctor, as the opening time varies from clinic to clinic.

From his own experience in the past, he found that doctors in Taiwan usually do not give injections to their patients, but prescribe a variety of light pills.

However, in India, it is quite common for doctors to inject patients, and doctors in India often prescribe heavy pills (500mg).

DJ pointed out that the second difference in medical care between Taiwan and India is the doctors.

He found that Taiwanese doctors speak very little and he speculated that the reason might be language.

All you need to do when seeing a doctor is to explain your condition in general and the doctor will give you a prescription, he said.

When DJ went to the pharmacy to pick up his medication, the medical staff explained to him how to take his medicine in English so that he could easily understand how to take it.

Thirdly, he noticed that Taiwanese doctors like to prescribe a lot of medication, with each bag containing various colors of medicine, and sometimes he is confused about the purpose of each drug.

To conclude, the DJ advises foreigners that most doctors in Taipei speak English, but if you’re in a rural area, you may have trouble communicating with the medical staff.

However, try to explain your situation, bring a Taiwanese friend, or use Google Translate, and it shouldn’t be too much of a problem, he advised.

In response to the video, many commented that “Taiwan’s medical and health insurance are perfect,” while another said, “Taiwanese doctors speak very good English, no matter in the city or the countryside.”

The other wrote: “Most Taiwanese doctors could read in English even if they don’t speak English fluently!”
