'100% wrong!' Sajid Javid hits out at Stormzy over claims UK is 'racist country'

Data was collected in a 2019 poll by Europa.

Further down the thread, Mr Javid, whose heritage is Pakistani, he added: “Britain is the most successful multiracial democracy in the world, and one of the most welcoming and tolerant.”

He then added a link to an article with the title “Britain elects most-diverse parliament ever”.

He said: “Of course more to do but also so much progress to be proud and optimistic about. Last week we elected our most diverse parliament ever with 1 in 10 MPs from an ethnic minority.”

Boris Johnson’s Chancellor of the Exchequer slapped down claims made today by Stormzy, an avid supporter of Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, that Britain is racist by posting a thread on his Twitter page proving the UK is nothing short of “welcoming and tolerant” to all races and backgrounds. He called Stormzy “100% wrong” before adding official data that asked British residents how comfortable they felt living in the UK, which received the lowest possible score for racial discrimination across Europe. Countries such as Bulgaria and Hungary got the highest possible marks from European residents.

Finally, he added an emoji of the Union Jack.

Mr Javid’s post caused a flurry of comments.

One commenter, referring to Stormzy, said: “Coincidentally this is coinciding with his album release.”

Another added: “He plays up to his fans and the money rolls in. calls them all racists and they all agree. Odd.”

“The difficult thing with the UK is, as you said, in Italy it’s a clear problem, whereas trying to explain that Britain is a racist country [to a British person] is the most difficult thing ever.

“They think: ‘No, it’s not. Stormzy you’re successful. Look at London, there’s loads of black people…’ It’s a more difficult case to fight.”

He also called Mr Johnson a “figurehead” and said he would turn down an MBE or OBE if offered one.

This week Stormzy was condemned for telling primary school children Mr Johnson was a “very bad man”.

The artist attended his old primary school in Thornton Heath, south London, when he called the Prime Minister a “very bad man.”

It was a response to one of the children who asked why he did not like Mr Johnson.

The UK grime artist had also made a comparison between Mr Johnson and the “the big bad wolf”.

Good Morning Britain presenter Piers called into question the ethics behind Stormzy saying such things to children.

Piers tweeted: “He shouldn’t have done this, and shouldn’t have been allowed to do this.”
