Police have arrested two people on suspicion of kidnapping and killing a middle-aged man in Hong Kong.

Oriental Daily reported that officers found the dead body by the mountains in Ping Yeung Village in Ta Kwu Ling on Thursday after arresting the two in Luen Wo Hui in Fanling on Wednesday.

The paper said it understood that the man was kidnapped around 10 days ago. After he went missing, his family lodged a report with the police.

The daily also said the victim was a businessman, with multiple businesses involved in different industries.

He was reportedly fond of football and is suspected to have accrued more than HK$3 million (US$382,286) in debt due to gambling.

A number of his relatives and friends were at the scene on Thursday to understand the situation.

Among them was the victim’s twin brother, who looked sad and had to sit by the road to rest, the paper said.

It also quoted a police spokesman as saying that they were investigating the suspected kidnapping case.
