22-month-old girl in Hong Kong dies after catching Covid-19

A 22-month-old girl in Hong Kong who contracted Covid-19 last week has died.

Lau Ka-hin, the Hospital Authority’s chief manager for quality and standards, said at the government’s daily coronavirus presser on Monday that the toddler, who had been critically ill for a few days, passed away at 12:56pm after her condition continued to deteriorate.

He added the authority is “very sad” over her passing and would provide the necessary assistance to her family.

The girl, who was under treatment at Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital, had had a fever, chills and rigors.

Lau said the case will be referred to the Coroner’s Court, hence he could not reveal more about the patient.

Separately, a 35-month-old boy who tested positive for Covid-19 is currently in intensive care.

Lau said the boy started having a fever last Friday and was initially sent to a private hospital.

After testing positive, he was transferred to Yan Chai Hospital’s intensive care unit.

The boy had convulsions six times, which stopped after he received medication.

His fever also stopped and his MRI results were normal.

He is now stable and under observation at Princess Margaret Hospital, Lau added.

The city reported 4,254 new Covid-19 cases, with 235 imported.

It also recorded six deaths on Sunday, aged 52 to 84.
