A Happy New Year? Covid-19, Brexit and economic challenges for Europe in 2021

Issued on: Modified:

The year 2021 has begun with new peaks in coronavirus infections around the continent, plus the start of a brand new relationship between the European Union and the United Kingdom. We also have the German government handing over the rotating presidency of the EU to Portugal, meaning it’s the administration in Lisbon that will have a key role in overseeing these and other important dossiers. In this show we have a panel of Members of the European Parliament, ready to look into their crystal balls and tell us what they think lies ahead for the coming year.

How will the arrival of Joe Biden in the Oval Office change EU-US relations? Will Europe’s Covid-19 vaccination programmes reach enough of the population, and quickly enough? How soon will battered European economies start recovering – and when will we all be able to travel and holiday freely around the continent again?

Produced by Céline Schmitt, Mathilde Bénézet and Isabelle Romero
