After its successful handling of Covid-19, Greece hopes tourists will return

Faced with the Covid-19 pandemic, Greek authorities opted for an early lockdown. This strategy was a success: the virus claimed less than 200 lives, a much lower figure than in other European countries. Now Greece is welcoming visitors back with open arms while maintaining strict sanitary measures. After ten years of recession, the country is waiting anxiously to see if the summer tourist season can be salvaged. Tourism is a central pillar of the Greek economy, accounting for nearly a third of its GDP. Our correspondents report.
