KOTA KINABALU: Sebatik assemblyman Hassan A Gani Pg Amir said today he had no choice but to swear allegiance to Warisan last year because he wanted to be the election candidate.

He acknowledged that he had taken the oath of allegiance, as shown in a video clip shared on social media today.

“But this oath is not valid because I have to, if I do not swear I will not be nominated,” he said.

On Thursday Hassan declared support for the ruling GRS coalition and announced he was an independent member of the state assembly.

Warisan president Shafie Apdal said today that the party would take legal action against Hassan. “The oath was uttered and signed by Hassan in front of all our lawyers. We never forced him to make the pledge, and he made it voluntarily. All Warisan candidates did the same,” he said.
