Chelsea chiefs have identified Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers as a possible replacement for Frank Lampard if they decide to sack the struggling boss.

Blues legend Lampard is fighting to save his job at Stamford Bridge after his Chelsea team slipped seven places in the Premier League in the space of six weeks.

Lampard’s Chelsea went top of the table in early December but have lost five of their last eight matches to slip to eighth, five points outside of the top-four places.

While Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich respects Lampard and is desperate for him to succeed, he will not stand for many more mediocre performances, particularly after he sanctioned a £200m spending spree last summer.

If Abramovich’s hand is forced and Lampard goes, Chelsea could look to move for Leicester boss Rodgers, according to the Daily Mirror.

It is claimed the Chelsea hierarchy have been impressed by Rodgers, who is one of the most highly-rated coaches in Europe.

Rodgers almost led Leicester to the Champions League last year – Leicester eventually finished fifth – and the Foxed are currently third, two points behind leaders Manchester United.

Despite the intense speculation over his future at Chelsea, Lampard insists he ignores the talk and the rumours about those who could replace him.

‘I don’t listen to it,’ said Lampard. ‘It’s only everywhere if you want to scroll through social media or something, but I don’t do that.

‘I’m not stupid, I know the pressures that come with managing a top football club, but I just do my job, it doesn’t matter to me.

‘The pressure is fine, you’re obviously happier when you’re winning games. I was obviously happier in October and November than now. I just have to get on with the job.’

Lampard’s Chelsea face Championship side Luton Town in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday.
