Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praises Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo Jr joined up with the Manchester United academy while his father has returned to the club he left 12 years ago.

It comes as the Portugal international put on a performance on his second debut for the Red Devils against Newcastle.

Ronaldo scored the opener and went on to grab another in a 4-1 win over the Magpies in front of a raucous Old Trafford crowd.

They did not stop singing the 36-year-old’s name throughout the contest while Bruno Fernandes and Jesse Lingard also got on the scoresheet in sublime fashion.

But he is not the only Ronaldo at the club, with the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s son also turning up to training.

This is not the first time Ronaldo Jr has turned up to work with his dad, doing the same while at Juventus.

And if any of Ronaldo’s talent has been passed down to his son, he is in for a brilliant and long career.

Just days after the youngster turned nine, he made his debut for Juve where he scored four goals.

He would go on to score seven in 45 minutes against CS Maritimo later on in the season.

Ronaldo told DAZN shortly after joining the Italian giants: “I hope that Cris, my son, can be like his dad.

“He says he is going to be better [than me], but I think it’s difficult.

“He is playing for Juventus and adapting really well, it has been easier for him than for me.”

Another potential star in the making is Wayne Rooney’s son Kai, who has joined the United academy.

Interestingly, both are in the same age group and there is a slight possibility fans could see a Ronaldo-Rooney combination at Old Trafford one day in the future once again.

Their fathers are legends at United, particularly their 2008 season together where they won the Champions League and Premier League under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Rooney has ended his career as the club’s highest goalscorer whereas Ronaldo landed his first Ballon d’Or while with the Red Devils.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men take on Young Boys at the Wankdorf Stadium tonight in the Champions League in their first European match of the campaign.

United will be hoping for better success in the competition compared to last season where they crashed out of the group stage.
