PETALING JAYA: Pahang assembly member Young Syefura Othman has apologised after criticism on social media accusing her of flouting movement restrictions by going to the seaside.
She said she was prepared to be investigated by authorities over her actions.
Young Syefura, who is with the DAP, had posted a picture of herself with four others at the Avani Sepang Gold Coast Resort in Selangor.
They were criticised for not observing social distancing and for not wearing any facemarks.
Selangor is under a conditional movement control order until Dec 6, following a surge in Covid-19 cases.
Young Syefura said on Twitter that she will not leverage on her status as assembly member for Ketari, Pahang, to move about in Selangor, where she lives.
“I am prepared to be investigated by authorities if I had breached any SOPs,” she wrote.
Activist and graphic designer Fahmi Reza had shared a screenshot of Young Syefura’s picture on the beach and that of a tweet in which she advised the public to practice social distancing and wear face masks so as not to negate the efforts of frontliners
Many of Fahmi’s followers took her to task, and expressed disappointment in her.
