Eddie Hearn has confirmed Anthony Joshua will fight Oleksandr Usyk or Dillian Whyte at the end of the year if a unification bout doesn’t happen with Tyson Fury.

The Matchroom boss is aiming to come to terms with Fury’s camp to stage an undisputed battle in December, but it remains to be seen if the fight can be made.

Fury is set to fight Deontay Wilder again this summer while Joshua takes on his IBF mandatory Pulev in London in June.

Asked what alternative opponents were available for Joshua, Hearn told IFL TV: ‘Usyk has got to beat (Derek) Chisora. But if we don’t fight Fury or Wilder, if he wins, we will fight Usyk or Derek Chisora.

‘It’s not a final eliminator but if you beat No.1, generally you become mandatory.’

‘Or Dillian Whyte,’ he added. ‘It’s a cast iron certainty at some point for that to happen. Dillian is waiting for his mandatory in February 2021.’

Whyte and Joshua went to war in 2015 and have a long-running rivalry that dates back to their amateur days.

Usyk is being tipped as the dark horse in the heavyweight division and is the mandatory challenger to Joshua’s WBO belt.

Hearn is confident Whyte will eventually get his rematch with Joshua and thinks that could come in his long-awaited crack at the WBC title next year.

‘If Fury fights AJ in December, the winner of that fight would have to sign to fight Dillian,’ he said.

‘The WBC would say the winner has to fight Dillian Whyte, if he beats (Alexander) Povetkin.’
