Don Don Donki opens biggest Hong Kong store in Tuen Mun

Japanese megastore chain Don Don Donki has opened its largest Hong Kong store yet in Tuen Mun, part of the company’s continuing expansion in the city.

The new Tuen Mun Town Plaza outlet, which spans 28,000 square feet, welcomed its first visitors on Tuesday.

At the store’s opening ceremony, a Donki spokesperson said the outlet—open daily from 8 am to 1 am—aims to bring a piece of Japan to Hong Kong at a time when global travel is still a no-go.

“[The Tuen Mun store is] created with a concept of a trip to Japan where you can find your happiness,” she said outside the store. “You can experience the true taste of Japanese food and culture as if traveling around Japan by train.”

The new store also features a yatai area (meaning street food stall in Japanese) inspired by the neon-lit Dotonbori, a food and shopping hotspot popular among tourists in Osaka.

Despite the slowing economy amid COVID-19, Don Don Donki has ambitious plans to expand its store network to 24 outlets in Hong Kong by mid-2024.

The Tuen Mun outlet is the seventh to open since the chain store’s Hong Kong debut two years ago in Tsim Sha Tsui, with other branches popping up across the city from Central to Tseung Kwan O.
