Eddie Hearn insists Dillian Whyte was cleared to fight ahead of last weekend’s heavyweight showdown against Oscar Rivas.

The 31-year-old outpointed his Colombian opponent after 12 gruelling rounds at the 02 Centre, claiming the WBC title and propelling him into contention for potentially career defining fights and lucrative fights against the likes of Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder.

Reports emerged on Wednesday, however, that the British-born fighter had tested positive for a banned substance prior to the fight.

Hearn, Whyte’s promoter, reacted on Twitter, saying: ‘Further to reports I can confirm that both Dillian Whyte and Oscar Rivas were subject to extensive VADA and UKAD testing for their bout.

‘Both fighters were cleared to fight by both bodies and the BBBofC.’

Back in 2012 Whyte was from the sport for two years after he was found to have taken a banned substance, methylhexaneamin, which he insisted he took unwittingly.
