Haiyaa … ‘Uncle Roger’ of YouTube fame to go on first world tour

Famous for his quips about egg fried rice, the orange polo-loving YouTuber better known as Uncle Roger is touring four cities in June as part of his first global tour.

The London-based Malaysian comedian, whose real name is Nigel Ng, 30, will visit Singapore, followed by his hometown Kuala Lumpur, as well as Hong Kong and Tokyo. Fans will probably get to see him cracking jokes about food and the trials of being Asian, which he normally does, on the big stage.

His first stop in Singapore is expected to take place at the Capitol Theatre on June 15. He will take the stage at Malaysia’s Plenary Hall in KLCC two days later, before flying to the two remaining cities in the same month.

The YouTuber made a name for himself last year when he uploaded a reaction video to BBC chef Hersha Patel’s cringe-worthy egg fried rice recipe, leading to a collaboration between the two in a show of camaraderie. Ng has since posted video commentaries of celebrity chefs Gordon Ramsay and Jamie Oliver making the same dish.

Early this year, Ng drew criticism online for deleting a video that featured prominent China critic Mike Chen in response to pressure from pro-China fans.

For his show In Kuala Lumpur, tickets go on sale Friday and each costs RM128 (US$31), RM188, and RM228. Fans who sign up for Ng’s newsletter will be able to buy tickets from today.
