Hong Kong Observatory issues red rainstorm alert, warns of significant road flooding
The Hong Kong Observatory issued the red rainstorm warning at 9.50pm on Thursday, and warned that downpours exceeding 50mm per hour were likely to persist.
The latest warning replaced an earlier amber alert issued at 9.25pm.

The heavy rain had resulted in and could continue to cause significant road flooding and traffic congestion, the Observatory warned.
It added that under the influence of a trough of low pressure, there would be showers and thunderstorms over the coast of Guangdong in the next few days.
