Hong Kong pet owner arrested after posting image of kitten wrapped in cling film

A woman in Hong Kong was arrested on charges of animal cruelty after she posted a picture on social media of her allegedly punishing her kitten by swathing it in plastic cling wrap for not snuggling with her at bedtime.

The photo showed the six-week-old blue-eyed kitten bound with multiple layers of cling wrap film around its arms and chest.

The 45-year-old cat owner was arrested from her apartment in a Yuen Street in Mong Kok for allegedly punishing the cat by tying it with the film for not cuddling with her in bed like her previous cat used to.

“I want to find a cat which we can hug and sleep together, that’s why I got a kitty, which should be easier [to sleep with],” South China Morning Post quoted the woman as saying in the caption.

“The previous one would rest on my neck with its paws when we slept, but this one just doesn’t do it, I could only tie it up with plastic wrap.”

The woman had been looking to sell the pet by listing it on a Facebook page for pet trading because her boyfriend did not liked the cat, the administrator of the page said. He alerted animal rescue organisations after the woman shared the picture of the kitten.

Officer So Wing-shun said the kitten has no injuries and has been sent to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, where it would be taken care of.
