KUALA KUBU BARU, June 9 — The Magistrate’s Court here was told today that actor Hafidz Roshdi, who was charged with injuring his wife in March, is fit to stand trial.
Deputy public prosecutor, Asmaa’ Zamri said this was based on psychiatric evaluation reports issued by Hospital Bahagia Tanjung Rambutan, Perak, on Hafidz Roshdi, whose real name is Muhammad Hafidz Roshdi, 29.
“The prosecution has received the psychiatric evaluation report, which states that the accused is fit and can be tried by this court,” he said during the mention of the case before Judge Mohd Kafli Che Ali, who acted as Magistrate.
Asmaa’ also applied to the court for another date to be fixed for the submission of documents.
Lawyer Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader, who represented Muhammad Hafidz, requested that a copy of the psychiatric report be submitted to the defence, but Asmaa said the prosecution only had one copy of the report and it would be submitted at the next mention of the case.
The court set July 17 for re-mention of the case.
In the previous proceedings, the court ordered that the actor get a psychiatric examination and treatment after the prosecution requested that the accused be referred to Hospital Bahagia Tanjung Rambutan, Perak in accordance with Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
On March 13, Muhammad Hafidz pleaded not guilty to the charge of intentionally causing injury to his wife, Nurul Shuhada Mat Shukri, 29, by punching her left cheek three times until the victim suffered cuts, bruises and swelling.
The actor of the drama series Tundukkan Playboy Itu, was accused of committing the offence near the Sungai Buaya Toll exit, here at 3.22am, on March 2.
The charge, framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum jail term of one year, or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both if convicted. The charge was read together with Section 326A of the same law, which carries imprisonment for a term which may extend to twice the maximum term on conviction under Section 323. — Bernama
