Kieran Trippier has reportedly admitted to his England colleagues that he would be keen to leave Atletico Madrid and complete a move to Manchester United in the summer transfer window.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is determined to establish United as a genuine force in next season’s title race after losing out to fierce rivals Manchester City and the Red Devils will be looking to strengthen on the right flank, with Borussia Dortmund sensation Jadon Sancho their top target in attack.

United are also on the hunt for a right-back who would be able to provide strong competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka and discussions are in place to lure former Tottenham star Trippier back to England.

The 30-year-old has impressed across his two-year spell with Atletico Madrid and was named in the La Liga Team of the Year after Diego Simeone’s side beat Real Madrid and Barcelona to the Spanish title.

However, Trippier has already begun house hunting around the Manchester area in preparation for a move to Old Trafford, despite having two years remaining on his current contract with Atleti.

According to The Daily Mirror, the experienced full-back has even let slip to his England team-mates that he hopes to be playing for United next term.

The report claims United are confident of an offer of between £15milllion and £20m will be enough to convince Atletico Madrid into parting with the England defender, who has been capped 27 times by the national team.

Trippier grew up in Ramsbottom, Greater Manchester and rose through City’s academy ranks before completing a permanent switch to Burnley in 2012, where he had shone across three separate loan spells.

The opportunity to return closer to friends and family back home is hugely appealing to the right-back as he approaches the latter years of his playing career.

United’s negotiations will likely have to be put on hold until the European Championships are over, with Trippier firmly in contention to be selected for England’s Group D opener against Croatia next weekend.

In an interview with Norwegian outlet TV2, Solskjaer reassured United supporters that the club will not ‘sit back’ this summer as they look to close the gap on champions City.

‘We were the second-best team, but too far behind to threaten the champions,’ he told TV2.

‘We have to strengthen ourselves. Of course, something will happen in the transfer window.

‘The world has become very different than it was 15 or 16 months ago, but we have to make some moves in the transfer window and also with the team.’

‘It is never possible to sit back. You are constantly looking for reinforcements.

‘Football is dynamic, so unexpected things can happen like injuries, illness, or someone that wants to move.

‘You have to take everything possible into consideration and reflect.

‘I will never sit down and think “the team is now exactly the way I want it to be” because you always see some other players, or other teams doing something you want.’
