Hearn reacts to Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury press conference

Social media star KSI believes Tommy Fury will lose to Jake Paul because he won’t handle the pressure.

Paul will face former Love Islander Fury, who holds a 7-0 record, in Florida on December 18, and for the first time since he began boxing, he is an underdog with bookies.

But KSI, whose real name is JJ Olatunji, believes that Fury will struggle on the big stage in his first pay-per-view main event.

“I think Tommy is going to lose,” KSI said during an appearance on the What’s Good podcast. “I know why, it’s because, I don’t think Tommy, when it comes to the main stage, I don’t think he can handle it…

“He looks like he’s getting forced to fight… Maybe it’s a ploy.”

Fury’s older brother Tyson is the world heavyweight champion, and has headlined arenas around the world in his massive bouts with the likes of Wladimir Klitshcko and Deontay Wilder.

KSI and Jake Paul are intense rivals

But he has struggled with mental health throughout his career, and KSI believes that the younger Fury will crumble with the big occasion.

He cited the reality TV star’s last bout against Paul sparring partner Anthony Taylor, a 5’6″ MMA fighter who had boxed once before taking on Fury as an example of his inability to finish opponents.

Fury comprehensively beat Taylor over four rounds, but disappointed with his performance and never looked close to landing a knockout.

“It’s true he can’t,” KSI said of Fury’s ability to handle pressure. “Because like the thing is he’s been fighting farmers.

“Like, even Jake’s mate, his sparring partner [Taylor] – he’s trash., I think he was training at Bellator and UFC and he did terribly and like you even saw the boxing fight.

“I was like ‘what is going on? This is not good’, and Tommy couldn’t put him away.

“I was like ‘Ahhh!’ Jake’s looking at this like, ‘Oh this is easy pickings’.”

KSI won his sole professional bout against Paul’s elder brother Logan, and prior to the onset of the coronavirus pandemic looked likely to face the younger brother.

But he is now likely too far behind the standard that Paul has reached, and the bout will probably never materialise as he focuses on his music career, which has spanned a number of top 10 singles and a No.1 album this year.

He will tour the UK and Europe over the early part of next year, so it would be the latter part of 2022 if he were to make his return to the ring at all.

His win over Logan Paul in November of 2019 was a massive bout on Sky Sports Box Office and DAZN, while Jake made his debut two months later against fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib.

And after his first round stoppage of Gib, he and KSI faced off in the ring, with Matchroom Boxing considering staging the massive social media bout before being forced to cancel plans due to the pandemic.
