Manchester United may have moved ahead of Liverpool in the race to sign Swiss midfielder Denis Zakaria.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have been linked with a move for the Borussia Monchengladbach star, whose contract at the German side runs out at the end of the season.
But reports now suggest it is Man United who have made the first move, with Ralf Rangnick’s side said to have held talks with the player’s representatives.

Reds legend Dirk Kuyt has told Jurgen Klopp the Carabao Cup semi-final is about one thing – winning.

Man Utd ‘make move’ for Zakaria
Liverpool could be set to miss out on midfield transfer target Denis Zakaria.
The Reds are said to view Zakaria as the perfect addition to a midfield that has struggled at times this term.
But United have reportedly made first contact with the player’s representatives and explained how Zakaria would fit into the team’s tactical set-up at Old Trafford.
It appears the player could be available fo a bargain £6m this month – and Liverpool will now have to move quickly if they want to sign the midfielder as details of his discussions with United have emerged.
