Man Utd are close to appointing Ralf Rangnick until the end of the season having sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last weekend with the German set to stay on in a consultancy role
A new era could soon be upon us in Manchester as the top brass at Old Trafford close in on the appointment of Ralf Rangnick.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked last weekend leaving the club looking for a new manager.
Michael Carrick took charge at Villarreal on Tuesday night but United were looking to hire someone until the end of the season and look to have opted for the highly thought of German.
Rangnick has held numerous roles across his career, earning himself a reputation as an excellent recruiter with a strong footballing philosophy.
It could mean changes on the pitch, with January potentially a defining period for several players.
Many were struggling for minutes under Solskjaer and had been planning to depart Manchester.
Here is the latest news coming out of Old Trafford
Rangnick en route to Manchester
United have taken less than a week to find an interim successor to Solskjaer, turning to the highly thought of German.
Rangnick’s career dates back decades, but his influence over some of football’s major players and names highlights his influence.
The 69-year-old is poised to take charge for the remainder of the year before taking up a two-year consultancy role.
Currently he has a job at Russian side Lokomotiv Moscow so United must still negotiate his exit before anything can be finalised.
As a result Michael Carrick is expected to take charge of the game at Chelsea this weekend.
Rangnick’s impressive recruitment and clear philosophy have been a hallmark at previous clubs meaning there could be something of a shake-up coming at Old Trafford.
The German has pioneered a pressing system and was also outspoken about Luke Shaw last year.
Red Devils in Vlahovic race
United will join a host of European club as they look to win the race for Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic.
The 21-year-old has scored 12 goals in 14 games in all competitions so far this season, but enjoyed a break through season last term.
He scored 21 times in 37 Serie A outings which has attracted interest from around the continent.
Fiorentina are pushing for European football, but may struggle to keep hold of their star youngster if major teams come knocking.
Bailly on Tottenham radar
New Tottenham boss Antonio Conte is keen on a move for United defender Eric Bailly, according to the Transfer Window Podcast.
Conte was looking to sign Bailly when he was in charge at Inter, but a move never materialised.
The Italian still thinks highly of the Ivorian and wants to bring him to north London.
Bailly has struggled to game time in Manchester and finds himself behind Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof in the pecking order.
He recently penned a new deal at Old Trafford, which could mean Tottenham have to pay more than they’d like for the centre-half.
