Manchester United are set to offer Luke Shaw a new contract with a significant pay increase after his fine form this season has seen him emerge as an integral part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

The 25-year-old has managed to put his regular injury concerns behind him this season, making 40 appearances in all competitions and being one of his team’s most consistently excellent performers.

With the arrival of Alex Telles from Porto in the summer transfer window it was not even clear whether Shaw would be a regular in the first team at left-back at the start of the season, but he has reduced his rival to just seven Premier League appearances thanks to his fine displays.

His current contract runs until 2023 and the Red Devils have the option of a further year on top of that, but the Daily Star report that he is due to be rewarded with a new deal.

The England international is currently paid £150,000 and this could be bumped up to £190,000-a-week and be extended past the current 2023 cut-off.

There is little reason to suggest that Shaw wouldn’t sign a new deal, enjoying his resurgence at Old Trafford which has seen him as a very possible starter for England at the European Championships this summer.

The former Southampton man has credited Solskjaer for his excellent form and happiness at the club.

‘He’s helped me a lot on the pitch, but more so he’s been one of the biggest influences off the pitch too, with the way he handles players’, he said.

‘He knows what players need. I had a difficult couple of years before he came in; I think maybe he realised that and knew what I needed.

‘He’s really helped me off the pitch. He obviously believes in me, he tells me that. That’s the confidence you need as a player: to have the manager believe in you.’

Telles, though, is reportedly unhappy with the situation and expected to be playing much more regularly for his new club.

A new deal for Shaw could see the Brazil international leave in the summer after just one season with the Red Devils.
