Marcelo Bielsa says Raphinha could miss Leeds United’s Premier League clash with Southampton this Saturday.

Raphinha is currently away with Brazil’s national team and has been brought on as a substitute in both of their games during the international break.

The winger could feature for a third time on Thursday evening as Brazil play Uruguay in their World Cup qualifier.

And Bielsa insists Raphinha, who will return to the UK on Friday, will not be risked this weekend if fatigue could potentially cause an injury.

‘There’s no doubt it’s a short turnaround,’ Bielsa said on Thursday.

‘The options he has to participate on Saturday depends on whether he plays this final game tonight, how many minutes he plays, how he finishes the game after participating, how efficient the rest he can have in the next 36 hours is, considering a third of those hours will be spent flying.

‘If there is any risk that fatigue can cause injuries we won’t risk it.

‘So many aspects to consider I can’t offer certainties either way.’

Bielsa also confirmed that Patrick Bamford will miss the trip to Southampton.

‘Bamford won’t play and Kalvin [Phillips] has chances of being able to do so,’ said Bielsa.

‘Bamford has a problem in his ankle and his recovery is subject to the evolution of the injury. The evolution we have is day to day.’
