Newcastle United are interested in signing Tammy Abraham and Billy Gilmour on loan from Chelsea this summer.

Steve Bruce is expected to work on a limited budget during the transfer window where loan deals are likely to make up the bulk of their summer business.

Chelsea are currently reluctant to allow either Abraham or Gilmour to leave on loan but according to The Northern Echo, Newcastle expect that stance to change before the start of the 2021-22 season.

Gilmour is the most likely to leave Stamford Bridge on loan, according to the report.

The 19-year-old, who will represent Scotland in this summer’s Euros, remains behind N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic in the current Blues pecking order with Newcastle hopeful Joe Willock’s successful loan stint on Tyneside will help convince Chelsea to part with the youngster.

Chelsea meanwhile are likely to seek a permanent move for Abraham, who was left out of both the FA Cup and Champions League final squads by Thomas Tuchel in May.

A £40m price tag prices Newcastle out of a permanent move for the 23-year-old but is it also likely to be viewed as an unrealistic fee by the striker’s other suitors this summer.

If Chelsea find themselves in a situation where they are unable to permanently offload Abraham a loan could be reconsidered, with Newcastle ready to do everything they can to bring the England international to St James’ Park.
