A former City player has spoken about the club’s striker predicament and whether it will be possible to draft in a big name to replace the likes of Sergio Aguero
Ex-Manchester City star Lukas Nmecha has said the club are bringing in “another top striker” this summer and it caused his departure.
City have lost Sergio Aguero to Barcelona and Nmecha to Wolfsburg and they have their eyes on two top strikers in the transfer window as a replacement for their outgoing players.
And while there is some doubt over whether the club can bag either of the forwards, Nmecha has said he left as he wouldn’t get much game time due to an imminent new arrival.
Nmecha told Kicker : “I had one year left on my contract.
“They’re bringing in another top striker; I don’t think my chance would have been very big there.”
His comments certainly suggest City expect to land one of their top targets in a marquee signing to replace Aguero.
Nothing has been confirmed by any clubs yet but Haaland is thought to be staying at Dortmund as he has welcomed the club’s new boss Marco Rose.
He told Stadium Astro : “I talked a little bit with him.
“I know him from before because I had six months with him in Salzburg. He’s a nice guy and I look forward to working with him.
“The training is so hard here, so it’s exactly the same as it was in Salzburg, a lot of hard training and there is going to be a lot of running. That’s what I expect the tactic to be to press a lot, run a lot and attack a lot.
“Now we have to have a good pre-season and have to get to know each other and we will see.
“We won the DFB Pokal last season which was very important for us as a club and the fans. That was important and we have to see.”
While Kane is in a tricky position as he wants to leave his boyhood club but new boss Nuno Espirito Santo wants to keep the striker.
The England captain has three years left on his Spurs contract and so City will have to pay a hefty sum for Kane.
A bid of around £100m from City for Kane has already been rejected by Tottenham and so the Sky Blues have come up with a new plan to sign the star.
They are thinking of throwing in one of their players to sweeten the deal and lower the price tag of the Spurs talisman.
Raheem Sterling, Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez and Gabriel Jesus are the four candidates for the part-exchange deal, according to L’Equipe.
Time will tell on how successful Guardiola is at securing a big name striker.
