Rabbit owner leaves pet in basket outside Disneyland because it ‘couldn’t be stored’ in a locker

A rabbit owner left her pet in a basket by the entrance of Disneyland while she was inside, drawing scores of angry comments online accusing her of animal abuse.

At around 4pm on Saturday, Disneyland visitors spotted a woven basket at a pagoda near the entrance of the theme park, according to Apple Daily. Inside the basket was a grey- and brown-haired rabbit and two paper cups.

A note clipped to the basket, which said the rabbit is “not a lost item,” read: “The rabbit owner is inside Disneyland. The rabbit couldn’t be stored [in a locker] and could not be brought into Disneyland].”

The owner also wrote her phone number on the note.

Disneyland visitors who saw the basket circulated photos of it online, with some accusing the owner of being irresponsible and even guilty of animal abuse.

On popular forum LIHKG, netizens wondered why the owner seemed unafraid that the rabbit would be stolen, or if she considered that the rabbit might suffer a heatstroke from the hot weather.

Disneyland said later that the owner did pick up her rabbit on the way out, but did not comment on how long it was left outside the park for or if park staff attended to the pet.

According to the park’s rules and regulations, animals are not allowed inside Disneyland with the exception of guide dogs assisting a disabled person.
