Who is Ralf Rangnick? Man Utd’s interim boss in profile

A new era is about to begin at Old Trafford as Manchester United appear set to appoint Ralf Rangnick as interim boss before he moves into a consultancy role with the club.

It would be an extraordinary appointment by the Red Devils, but it has by no means been an easy one to pull off.

Rangnick has already told United what he expects from the role, while details of his payment offer have also been revealed.

The German coach will also be fully aware of the wishes of one of his former players to play for United ahead of the January transfer window.

Here are Mirror Football’s latest Manchester United headlines.

Rangnick’s demand

German coach Rangnick has made one thing clear ahead of joining Manchester United – he wants to be an “influence across the whole club”.

That has been the theme of the former RB Leipzig boss’s career in recent years as he demands to have a say on matters off the pitch as well as on it.

Back in 2019 he responded to reports linking him with a move to United and told The Guardian : “I am happy where I am but if any club wanted to speak to me, the question would have to be: ‘Can I be somebody who can influence areas of development across the whole club?’

“Otherwise you are only getting half of what I am capable of.”

He also indicated how that will bring success.

Leipzig star ‘dreaming’ of move

A Ralf Rangnick signing at RB Leipzig has stated his dream to play for the Old Trafford club.

Rangnick signed Mali international Amadou Haidara for the German club for £17million in 2019 – and may be tempted to bring the midfielder in to plug a problem position once again.

Haidara was signed as a long-term replacement for Naby Keita after he departed for Liverpool, and is said to be of interest to Newcastle United.

The player has a relatively low release clause in his contract, meaning he would be available for anyone willing to pay it.

Payment details revealed

United still harbor hopes of a top-four finish in the Premier League in order to secure Champions League football for Rangnick’s successor next season.

And if Rangnick can secure that elusive goal, he will reportedly be in for a bumper payout.

The payment details will provide extra motivation to the boss, who will have little time to get his methods across to the United players if he is to be a success at the club.
