RIP, Magawa: Cambodia’s hero rat who detected landmines dies at age of 8




A landmine-hunting rat that was awarded a gold medal for heroism for clearing ordnance from the Cambodian countryside has died, his charity said on Tuesday.Magawa, a giant African pouched rat originally from Tanzania, helped clear mines from about 225,000 square metres (56 acres) of land over the course of his career.After detecting more than 100 landmines and other explosives, Magawa retired in June last year.We are grateful for the incredible work he’s doneThe APOPO charityMagawa died …
