Ryan Garcia has revealed Manny Pacquiao personally told him he wanted to fight him before talks between the two camps broke down.

Lightweight sensation Garcia scored the biggest win of his career to date when he knocked out former Olympian Luke Campbell in January before shifting focus to ring legend Pacquiao.

The 21-year-old shared a fight poster for the proposed bout to his 8 million Instagram followers that month with the two seemingly set to meet in a catchweight bout.

With coach Eddy Reynoso and promoters Golden Boy warning him off the fight however, talks have since collapsed with Garcia now seemingly focused on a thrilling meeting with Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis.

Garcia was part of the DAZN broadcast team on Saturday as Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, who shares a trainer with Garcia in Reynoso, dominated Avni Yildrim in three rounds.

After the bout, Garcia was asked if he regretted the manner in which the Pacquiao fight hype emerged, before suggesting the fight still remains a possibility.

‘I shoot for the stars. I don’t care what people have to stay,’ Garcia said. ‘I go for my dreams and I just adjust to whatever happens after. No matter what, it’s going to be all good.

‘I’ll fight Tank or I’ll fight Manny, it don’t matter. I’m just here to fight and chase my dreams and Whatever happens is gonna happen.’

When asked if there was a contract on the table, he added: ‘When I said it on the DAZN broadcast before Campbell, I was saying it just as a thought in my head.

‘Then they [Pacquiao’s camp] came and offered me the fight. Then I got into this whole situation with Manny. There were things on his side [that meant talks broke down]. But I respect him, he’s a legend.

‘He told me myself he wanted to fight me. It’s all love though. I’m moving forward with my career and I’m ready to face the best.’
