Saudi health ministry: No ICU admittance of virus patients in past 24 hours

JEDDAH: The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) infections in the Kingdom is stabilizing as the Saudi Ministry of Health (MoH) announced no patients with virus-related symptoms were admitted into the ICU over the past 24 hours.
The Kingdom recorded 1,486 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 487,592.
Most new cases were in the Eastern Province with 360, followed by Makkah (317), Riyadh (261), and Asir (196).
There are 12,140 active cases while the number of critical cases dropped to 1,406 compared to last week. Fifteen new COVID-19-related deaths have raised the total number of fatalities to 7,819.
The MoH said that a further 1,055 patients had recovered from COVID-19, bringing the total number of recoveries in the Kingdom to 467,633. The country’s recovery rate is currently at 95.9 percent and holding steady.
In addition, 104,573 new polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests conducted in the past 24 hours have raised the number of tests conducted in the country to over 21.9 million.
Authorities continue to crack down on those who break quarantine protocols as 200 quarantine violators were apprehended in the Eastern Province. Violators could face up to two years in prison and fines up to SR200,000 ($53,330).
On the COVID-19 vaccine front, the MoH reported that more than 1.3 million of the elderly population have received at least the first dose of the vaccine. 
Among the Kingdom’s general population, more than 51.1 percent have received at least one jab as 17.7 million doses have been administered at a rate of 119,602 per day.
