ALOR SETAR: The Social Security Organisation (Socso) has set up a special task force to process claims under the Socso Employment Injury Scheme for Covid-19 and speed up payments to the claimants.
Deputy Human Resources Minister Awang Hashim said applications from contributors infected by the pandemic while on duty will be processed immediately and take a maximum of 45 days to be cleared.
If the application meets all the requirements, payment can be made without undue delay, he told reporters after opening the Kedah Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) triennial delegates conference here today.
He said claims by contributors confirmed to have been infected while working will be considered as “injury at work”.
However, applications from those confirmed to have been infected by family members and social contacts will not be accepted for payment.
Recipients under the scheme will be paid 90% of their salary according to the number of days they were treated in hospital until they were confirmed negative.
Awang said Socso received 376 applications under the scheme last year, of which 129 were approved.
“Forty-two cases were rejected while another 205 are under investigation. The total payment made so far is more than RM216,000,” he said.
