KUALA LUMPUR: The National Security Council (MKN) is holding discussions with the youth and sports ministry to allow more sports activities to take place, Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today.

Speaking at a press conference today, Ismail said the ministry had requested for outdoor sports activities, such as football and futsal, to resume following the loosening of travel restrictions.

He said the ministry was currently preparing the necessary documents for MKN to study.

Ismail added they were still in talks with the tourism, arts and culture ministry to reopen tourist attractions, after receiving numerous applications from tour operators in the country.

“We have asked the tourism ministry to provide a list of suggestions, and which parts of the industry they think should be allowed to reopen.”

He also said MKN would discuss with the Sarawak government to consider relaxing the 14-day mandatory quarantine rule for travellers returning to the state for Christmas.

“All the current SOPs are to protect Sarawak, which is a green state. But I will discuss with MKN and the state government of Sarawak on those who wish to return and celebrate Christmas.”

On the daily enforcement against those who committed MCO-related offences, Ismail said 254 people were arrested by police yesterday. All were issued fines.

The majority were punished for not wearing masks, failing to record the particulars of customers and not practising physical distancing.

The authorities also detained 28 undocumented migrants and confiscated a boat as well as three vehicles as part of the ongoing Ops Benteng campaign.

Ismail added that 690 people returned to Malaysia yesterday from various countries, all of whom are currently under mandatory quarantine.
