Salford Red Devils recorded the biggest away win of the new season as they scored 10 tries to demolish Hull FC.
Having lost their previous two Super League games, this was a spectacular return to form for Paul Rowley’s team.
Deon Cross, Shane Wright and Tim Lafai grabbed two tries each with further scores from Ryan Brierley, Tyler Dupree, Kallum Watkins and Marc Sneyd.
Jake Clifford, Adam Swift and Brad Fash scored Hull’s tries as they suffered a second heavy loss in a row.
The home side had actually grabbed the first points when scrum-half Clifford went over, but the game was effectively over by half-time as Salford led by 26 points.
Half-backs Brodie Croft and Sneyd were to the fore as the Red Devils showed the type of form they had displayed in the second half of last season in reaching the play-off semi-finals.
Wright touched down twice with Cross, Brierley and Dupree each going over once in the first half as they cut through the home defence time and time again.
Rather than any Hull resistance after the interval, the pattern continued as Cross, Sneyd, Watkins and Lafai added further damage to the scoreline.
It was only when Salford eased up with the match won did Hull manage to score more points, with winger Swift and forward Fash, on his 150th appearance, scoring tries.
However, it was only fitting that the Red Devils finished the scoring as Lafai crossed for his second and his team’s 10th try on an incredible afternoon.
The result lifts Salford up to fifth in the table, with Hull dropping to ninth.
The most alarming thing for Tony Smith’s team is their defence as they have conceded the most points in Super League, having lost by 32 points last week to Catalans Dragons.
Hull FC head coach Tony Smith told BBC Radio Humberside:
“I’m disappointed, embarrassed, a number of feelings.
“We understand that we’re not representing our club in the way that we want. We have 11,000 people out there cheering us on and we’d like to do better for them.
“It hurts. If it didn’t, you would be in the wrong place. The players are hurting in there and we need to dig our way out.”
Salford Red Devils head coach Paul Rowley told BBC Radio Manchester:
“The Salford fans who came in good numbers and made a loud noise were treated to some pretty special tries.
“To come to Hull and get a win in any manner is fantastic. We’d have taken a one or two-point win.
“This is pleasing for a couple of reasons. One, it’s good to get the result and two, to get our points difference on a plus which is a good thing for us.”
