Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will not select Diogo Dalot because he feels the full-back is not aggressive enough and responded effectively to instructions on training.

The Manchester United right-back managed just one start in the Premier League last season and was omitted from ten of the last 12 matchday squads of the campaign.

There have been rumblings that Dalot is considering an exit from United and the Athletic claims Solskjaer and United are ready to sell the 21-year-old.

Solskjaer wants his full-backs to be strong in the tackle and assertive on the ball, but feels Dalot has not shown either of those qualities in training or in the games he did feature in.

The United head coach has also not seen Dalot take on board his directions in training and the defender can become ‘miserable’ when not selected.

Solskjaer is sympathetic to any player’s desire to play, but would prefer Dalot takes the snub as fuel to make the necessary changes.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has established himself as the No.1 pick at right-back and Dalot managed just six minutes in the league after recovering from a groin injury last January.

Dalot did play a big role in United’s run to the FA Cup semi-final, but was dropped completely by Solskjaer for the defeat to Chelsea.

The Portuguese could be part of an exodus at United as the Red Devils aims to raise more transfer funds.

Donny van de Beek became United’s first major addition last week and the Manchester club continues to be linked with Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho.

The sale of Dalot and other fringe players could provide the extra money needed to match Dortmund’s huge asking price, although the German side insist Sancho is going nowhere.
