Young Singaporean loses control of bike and falls off bridge to his death in Malaysia on the way back home

SINGAPORE: A young Singaporean motorcyclist tragically lost his life in a fatal accident while returning home from Johor Bahru, Malaysia, in the early hours of Monday (26 June).

The victim, identified as Muhammad As Daniel, a 22-year-old Singaporean, was travelling along the Eastern Dispersal Link (EDL) expressway towards the Johor Bahru checkpoint when he lost control of his motorbike, resulting in a devastating crash.

The incident occurred around 2 am when Daniel’s bike overturned, sending him hurtling over the side of a 10-foot-high viaduct, where he tragically fell to the bottom of the bridge. He reportedly died on the spot.

The first responders to arrive at the scene were members of the Malaysian company Sin Mah Bike Towing, who received a notification from the Malaysian police at approximately 2 am.

Upon reaching the location, they discovered the lifeless body of the young motorcyclist. Recognizing the urgency of the situation and the need to inform the victim’s family, Sin Mah Bike Towing posted an appeal on Facebook, sharing the license plate number of the motorcycle, hoping that someone would recognize it and help identify his relatives.

According to the company, Daniel had obtained his driver’s license just last month, and the motorcycle involved in the accident was a rented one.

The tragic turn of events has left his family devastated and in shock. His relatives contacted Sin Mah Bike Towing at 10 am, and the case has been handed over to the local authorities for further investigation.

Asroy Abdullah, the deceased’s brother, took to Facebook to express his heartfelt condolences. In a poignant tribute, he fondly reminisced about their time together, recounting childhood memories and their close bond as siblings.

He ended his post with a tearful goodbye, cherishing the moments they shared and thanking his brother for being an integral part of his life. Asroy wrote: “I’ve never think that this picture will be our last picture together and our last meet up during Hari Raya this year. We build our memories together, and will never fade. I pray for you ‘til hereafter.”

Authorities in both countries are urging all motorists to adhere to traffic rules, maintain safe driving practices, and exercise caution while travelling, particularly during late hours when visibility may be compromised.

The tragic accident and the loss of a young life serve as a sombre reminder of the importance of road safety and the devastating consequences that can result from a single moment of negligence or loss of control. Police investigations are ongoing.
