9 of the best new restaurants and bars in Hong Kong in March 2024, for burgers, vegan pastries, Chinese food, cocktails and more


Two new bars offering wildly different concepts have also opened in Causeway Bay.

1. Flat Iron Burger

One of the newest openings on Elgin Street marks the return of familiar faces Aarik Persaud and Johnny Glover. Flat Iron Burger is the brainchild of the original minds behind The Butchers Club Burger, which launched in Wan Chai in 2014.

The menu features burgers made with the restaurant’s signature blend of prime Black Angus or Wagyu beef, sourced from farmers in Queensland, Australia.

Other items include the Flatiron Deluxe, Pigalle n Cheese, Shinjuku Surf n Turf, Buffalo Bill, and Santa Monica Mama.

2. Maya Bakery & Bar

This artisan vegan bakery and bar has opened its doors in Taikoo Place.

Maya aims to encourage mindful living with plant-based choices that are free from additives and artificial flavours, with signature items like the egg tart, pandan pineapple bun and pistachio croissant.

Patrons can also enjoy a range of drinks, including cocktails like the Coriander Blast, alongside classic options and a selection of plant-based milk options.

3. Ming Pavilion

A Hokkien restaurant has taken up residence on the eighth floor of the luxurious Island Shangri-La hotel. Featuring panoramic, floor-to-ceiling windows, Ming Pavilion invites guests to indulge in the Fujian art of tea as well as traditional dishes.

Signature menu items include deep-fried five spice pork roll, and steamed mudcrab with glutinous rice.

4. Jimmy’s Kitchen

At the helm in the kitchen is veteran chef Russell Doctrove, previously of Maximal Concepts.

The new premises promise a bit of old refreshed with contemporary touches, sure to pique the interest of many diners who remember the original Jimmy’s Kitchen.

5. Here Thai Market

A Thai restaurant has opened its doors in Sha Tin’s Newtown Plaza, in the New Territories.

The menu is a collaboration between renowned chef Thitid “Ton” Tassanakajohn of Le Du – No 1 on the newest Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list – and Cantonese chef Man Wai-yin, and features tried-and-true signatures such as Thai boat noodles, Hainan chicken and pork knuckle. The signature Thai milk tea is a must-try as well.

6. Corsican Stars

Corsican Stars is a new speakeasy bar hidden inside vinyl cafe Mercury Recalls By Lost Stars in Causeway Bay, and offers an immersive experience with exquisite cocktails.

Inspired by the line “Find me beneath the Corsican stars, where we first kissed” from the movie Cloud Atlas, the bar is accessed through an art space that leads guests into a secret room.

The bar also features an exclusive entry system, where guests must obtain a token through various means, such as taking part in social media contests. Once inside, Asian-inspired cocktails such as gin lychee and tequila bitter melon await.

7. Draft Land

Draft Land HK, a collaborative venture between Taiwanese bartender Angus Zou and Hong Kong’s Antonio Lai, has launched a second branch amid the hustle and bustle of Tang Lung Street in Causeway Bay.

Known for its “cocktails on tap” concept, Draft Land has delivered high-quality, sustainable cocktails since its inception in Taiwan in 2018. Its new location will focus on seasonal specials and exclusive cocktails inspired by local flavours.

8. Casa Cucina

Handcrafted pasta still takes centre stage, with dishes such as morels pappardelle and Casa carbonara showcasing the chef’s skills.

9. Aga Restaurant and Bar

Aga Restaurant & Bar, located on Tsim Sha Tsui’s bustling Haiphong Road in Kowloon, features indoor and outdoor seating, and operates under a “coffee by day, shisha bar by night” concept.

Items such as garlic bread, pistachio lamb rack and crème brûlée are on the menu.
