A basketball coach with a Hong Kong secondary school has been fired after photos that allegedly showed him having sex with a female student circulated online, prompting education authorities to express deep concern over the matter.

The coach allegedly worked with a Catholic secondary school in Southern district of Hong Kong Island.

The Education Bureau revealed the coach was laid off, and declined to identify the institution involved. It expressed deep concern over the incident and said it had immediately contacted the school.

A bureau spokesman said it had asked the school to investigate and produce a report, while also offering to provide support.

He said the school had set up a crisis management team to provide counselling and support to students and parents affected by the incident.

According to a police source, the force has not received any formal complaints about the matter.
