Hong Kong man alleged to have fled failed store raid and robbed driver of taxi used to escape scene
A Hong Kong man was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of robbing a taxi driver whose cab he hailed to flee from a failed knife raid on a convenience store.
Police said they received a report at about 3am on Tuesday that the man had tried to rob a Yuen Long store with a 17cm-long (6.7 inch) knife.
“The male employee did not obey and immediately called for help,” Chief Inspector Poon Lok-shun said. “The convenience store suffered no monetary losses.”
Poon alleged the jobless man, 41, used a taxi to escape and later robbed the driver of about HK$450 (US$58).
He added that, after an investigation that involved checking CCTV cameras, the force arrested the man at about 2pm the same day.
Police later seized a knife and clothes said to belong to the man after a search of his home and the surrounding area.
The force said the man had been detained and that the investigation continued.
