Hong Kong’s Clear Water Bay Road fully reopens after landslide forced lane closure amid weekend downpour
The Transport Department said at 1.08am that it had ended the temporary one-lane-two-way traffic arrangement on Clear Water Bay Road near Wing Lung Road in Hang Hau, where a slope measuring about 30 metres long (98 feet) and 40 metres deep had collapsed.
The Observatory issued the first red rainstorm warning of the year on Saturday, with areas in the eastern parts of the city – such as Sai Kung, Tseung Kwan O and Kwun Tong – hit the hardest.
Tseung Kwan O and Clear Water Bay in Sai Kung district recorded more than 140mm of rainfall in about 1½ hours at one point.
Secretary for Transport and Logistics Lam Sai-hung said on Sunday while inspecting the landslide site that the road should reopen by rush hour on Monday after repair works were finished.
He said workers had sprayed concrete on the slope and would carry out further work later to consolidate the structure.
The Saturday downpour triggered 15 landslides across the city.
