PETALING JAYA: Lawyer Mahmud Jumaat has claimed that he is still representing the mother of Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin, the six-year old autistic boy who is believed to have been murdered.

In a lengthy Facebook post, Mahmud, who had on June 4 declared he would no longer represent Zayn’s parents, said he had represented Zayn’s mother, Ismanira Abdul Manaf, in court recently.

“I am still representing Zayn’s mother. I decided to represent Zayn’s mother after meeting with the family.”

Mahmud said this in response to claims by Zayn’s grandfather, Zahari Mohd Reba, who said he had never appointed Mahmud to represent his son, Zaim Ikhwan, and daughter-in-law.

Mahmud said Zahari had since apologised over the confusion.

Last Wednesday, former deputy public prosecutor Fahmi Abd Moin announced that he would be representing Zayn’s parents.

Zayn, six, was reported missing on Dec 5 last year in Damansara Damai and was found dead the following day about 200m from his home.

The post-mortem revealed multiple injuries, including defensive wounds, with the cause of death believed to be strangulation.

Zayn’s parents are currently being remanded until Wednesday.
