Terengganu MB urges Putrajaya to involve state agencies in distribution of flood aid

KUALA TERENGGANU, Jan 13 ― The federal government should get agencies under the state government involved in distributing aid to flood victims, said Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.

Ahmad Samsuri said the move was to avoid overlapping in aid distribution through coordination of work between the federal and state government agencies.

He said that the central government’s decision to completely leave the task and methods of distributing flood relief to the Federal Development Department (JPP) without involving the agencies under the state government will create problems and the flood victims will suffer.

“We understand that in dealing with the flood victims, there are things that require cooperation between the state and central governments. In this way, harmony can prevail and there is no overlap of assistance to the victims,” he told reporters at the Terengganu’s Polygon Cycling Team (TSG) 2023 riders and sponsors introduction ceremony last night.

On Dec 21, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced an immediate allocation of RM50 million each to Kelantan and Terengganu after the states were hit by floods

Meanwhile, Ahmad Samsuri said the state government is in the process of preparing the list of flood victims who will be receiving the flood relief aid soon.

Earlier, the state government announced a cash assistance of RM1,0000 will be given to about 10,000 household heads who have been affected by the unexpected severe floods on Dec 18. ― Bernama
