'The Glory' director admits to being a bully at school after initially denying it

KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 — The director of Netflix’s hit series The Glory has admitted to bullying in his teens after initially denying he committed the offence.

In a statement issued via his lawyer, Ahn Gil Ho said he was aged 17 then and was studying in the Philippines, The Korea Herald reported.

According to Ahn’s lawyer Kim Mun-hui, Ahn had acted that way after his girlfriend was teased by friends at school.

“Director Ahn said he wants to ask for forgiveness from deep within his heart and would like to meet in person or communicate through the phone to convey his apology to those affected,” Kim said.

The matter came to light after Korea JoongAng Daily highlighted a chat site user pointing out the irony of Ahn directing a television show about bringing school bullies to justice when he himself had committed a similar act at school.

Ahn had initially denied the incident but later claimed he forgot about it as it happened a long time ago.

According to Mothership, the incident had occurred in 1996 at an international school.

The Glory revolves around its protagonist, played by Song Hye Kyo, who seeks revenge against people who bullied her when she was in school.

Part one of the series was third in Netflix’s rankings of non-English language shows in January.

Part two of The Glory premiered on March 10.
