An assistant professor at the University of Hong Kong has been arrested on suspicion of indecently assaulting a female colleague on campus, the Post has learned.

The woman, a 28-year-old researcher, reported the case to police on March 15, accusing the man of multiple indecent assaults, a source said on Monday.

The alleged assaults were said to have occurred between January 18 and February 4 when the assistant professor visited her office on four occasions.

She was said to have endured unwelcome physical contact, including being kissed and other inappropriate behaviour.

The researcher sought help from a social worker, who encouraged her to report the case to police.

The assistant professor surrendered to police, leading to his subsequent arrest on March 17.

The man told investigators he was having an extramarital affair with the woman, the police insider said.

A police spokesman said the man was later released on bail and must report back next month.

A Western district investigation team is looking into the case.
