PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan election coordinator Steven Sim has denied the opposition’s claim the government had abused federal funds when campaigning for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.

“As the PH election coordinator, I can say there is none (no abuse).

“The claim is false. Even I came here in my own car,” he told reporters after attending an event in Hulu Selangor tonight.

Sim, who is also the human resources minister, was responding to PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan’s claim that Perikatan Nasional had evidence the unity government had abused its funds, which it said was tantamount to bribing the voters.

Takiyuddin also said the coalition will file an election petition if PH wins the by-election on May 11.

Sim, however, said any party has the right to file a petition with the election court.

Electoral reform group Bersih had previously criticised the housing and local government ministry’s announcement of a RM5.21 million allocation to upgrade public infrastructure facilities in Kuala Kubu Bharu ahead of the by-election.

Bersih said the announcement violated its “No Conditions, No Campaign and No Candidates” guidelines

Asked about Bersih’s criticism, Sim said it was best to direct the question to the “organiser” of the event where the announcement was made.
