Wolves chairman Jeff Shi has questioned the role of the video assistant referee after Max Kilman’s disallowed effort in their 2-1 loss to West Ham.
Kilman’s late header was ruled out with team-mate Tawanda Chirewa deemed to be blocking West Ham keeper Lukasz Fabianski’s view while offside.
Boss Gary O’Neil said it was “possibly the worst decision I have ever seen”.
And Shi added: “It’s time to question if someone remote disallowing that goal is what football wants or needs.”
Losing 2-1 in the ninth minute of stoppage time, Wolves captain Kilman thought he had levelled with a header that beat Fabianski and found the far corner.
But the goal was disallowed after a VAR review deemed substitute winger Chirewa, who was in an offside position, was blocking the sight of the Polish goalkeeper.
Wolves, who are 11th in the table and have already surpassed last season’s points tally with seven games to go, have had a number of controversial decisions go against them this season.
O’Neil said both Fabianski and West Ham manager David Moyes had told him they felt the goal should have stood.
Moyes did not say that to the media afterwards but did admit he “felt for Gary”.
And speaking to Wolves’ official website, Shi said “not one person inside the stadium” questioned Kilman’s goal.
“It is our sincere hope that the Premier League and [officiating body] PGMOL recognise the importance of addressing these concerns to uphold the integrity of the competition and demonstrate why the Premier League is regarded as the best in the world,” he added.
“If it wasn’t for a number of incorrect or contentious decisions we would be even further up the table.”
